Wow, Jay Bilas is hammering Chris Taft.  Keep in mind, Jay Bilas plugged Josh Smith as the guy who would be the biggest bust in the draft last year.  And that was a draft where a guy had the last name Khryapa.

I was done a while ago, but the Gomes pick kills me.  How did this guy last that long?  Four year starter who plays basketball really well.

You know you’re really good at what you do, when you pick in the same spot every year and you’re not the Clippers.  I’m referring to the Spurs who pick at the end of the draft because they always win.

Well, I have no idea who this guy is.  But then again, you could say that for the Spurs every year.  Popp loves the international players.  Also, the Spurs are in no hurry to bring a player over.  They have plenty of time.

Ooooh.  The Heat just added Wayne Simien.  There will be no change if the Heat lose Haslem.  In fact, Simien could take Haslem’s spot.  Haslem could become trade bait for another shooter.

The Knicks added another power forward.  It just kills me.

Lee – PF

Rose – PF

Thomas (as of right now) – PF

Sweetney – PF

Taylor – PF

Tim Thomas – SF/PF

Marbury – PG/SG

Hardaway – SG

Crawford – SG

Frye – C

Houston – SG

Jerome Williams – PF

Ariza – SG/SF

Jackson – SG

They are a team of two guards and power forwards.

Since it’s the second round, these guys are getting second round commentary.

Now the Hawks selected a shooting guard.  If you have nothing but small forwards, the one position you don’t need to add is a shooting guard.  Greg Anthony called him a point guard.  If he can do it, then they just picked up a fantastic player.  Although I seriously doubt it.

Daniel Ewing should easily take Marko Jaric’s minutes off the bench.

New Orleans is trying to get fans from around the city, and that’s why they took a homer.  Bass ain’t bad though.  He’s going to steal P.J. Brown’s minutes.

I really, really like what the Raptors have done in this draft.  They added Villanueva to board down low with Bosh in the high post.  They added a 3 who can defend and will play his heart out.  They also added a high-octane, slashing point to take over when Skip-to-my-lou loses his mind again.  Once again, I’m expecting some big things from this team next year.  Especially after they waive Jalen Rose.

Taft will be tough…if he ever gets his head straight.

And the hits keep on coming.

I know that the Spurs are going to bring over Luis Scola, so they may not need to select Chris Taft.  I like Taft’s potential, but another possibility is Roko Ukic.

Maxiell?  He was selected to beat on Duncan like Fortson did for Seattle this year.  Dumars is thinking ahead, and he can also rebound really well to help keep the Spurs off the offensive glass in the finals next year.

If the Blazers/Nuggets wanted Vitaly Potapenko, why didn’t they draft somebody else, and wait for the Sonics to waive him?

Ladies and gentlemen, the champs are on the clock…

My Internet service is down.  Note to all you loyal blogsters: Never let your boss send you to Calvert City, Kentucky.

Martell Webster and Andrew Bynum?  Really, both of those teams couldn’t have traded down to get these guys.  Big mistake.  Huge mistake.

Speaking of huge mistakes, the Knicks are on the clock.  And…YES!  They selected Channing Frye.  When I watch Channing Frye play, I think he falls somewhere between Dan Gadzuric and Loren Woods on the potential scale.  Certainly that doesn’t warrant the 10 selection.  I love Ike Thomas.

Another huge mistake, selling the New Jersey Nets to Bruce Ratner.  He just selected another 2/3.  Ummm, don’t Vince Carter and Richard Jefferson play the exact same positions?  What the heck is going on here?

I feel really sorry for the teams that passed on Gerald Green, Danny Granger, and Joey Graham.  They will be pretty darn good.

So far Boston has won this draft.  They now have Al Jefferson, Delonte West, Tony Allen, Marcus Banks, and Gerald Green for the next 4 to 5 years.  Wow, they could be really good.  Somewhere the Sports Guy is losing his mind.

Seriously, Deron Williams’ ladyfriend was attractive.  Best looking girlfriend/fiancee/wife since Curtis Borchardt’s ladyfriend a few years ago.  Who else notices these things for you people.  I know ESPN and the othere blogs won’t put that out there for your edification.

Hakim Warrick is going to Memphis.  Somehow I don’t think the Griz will miss Stromile Swift one bit.  He’s an awesome leaper.  Much like Darius Miles, he needs to extend his jumper.

I’m hoping Chris Taft will slip to the 28th selection.  If I were Hubie Brown, I would be beaming about his upside potential.  Taft and Charlie Villanueva are not that different.  Both are tall, talented, and they are headcases.  I’m pretty sure Popp can get to him.  Besides, like I always say, winning can change anyone’s attitude.  (See ‘Big Dog’ Robinson.)

Tirico can’t figure out whether to call Bogut an international player or an underclassman.  He’s been riding this all draft.  Stinking Canadians.  (Keep in mind that this is a fun draft, and I’m not trying to start any international incident.  Although, if I were, I like our odds.)

Danny Ferry is already making things happen in Cleveland.  He dealt Jiri Welsch to Milwaukee for a 2nd round pick in this year’s draft.  With as bad as Milwaukee was, and as deep as this draft is, Ferry could land a talented player in that spot to keep King James happy.  The Bucks also landed talented 2/3 to help soften the blow if Redd leaves.

Nate Robinson is going to be running the court with Steve Nash.  I can’t wait for his highlight-reel dunks.  WHAT?!?!?!?!?  Why are the Suns including him in the deal?  The deal was already done.

On the other hand, the Knicks just got even shorter, and added another guard who can’t really play the point.  That’s very funny.  Maybe Isiah was planning on putting Robinson on Malik Rose’s shoulders so he could have a player over 7’0” who has some toughness.  And yes, I’m already taking shots at Channing Frye, and, no, I’m not worried about him turning out to have an outstanding career.

I’ve lost track of how many times Jay Bilas has used the word long.  He just said that Jarrett Jack was long.  Does he know any other adjectives?  I like what the Nuggets have done.  The Spurs killed the Nuggets when both teams went to the bench.  Now the Nuggets have two players who can come in and contribute and handle the ball to allow Earl Boykins more freedom to move in the offense.  Miller, Jack, Boykins, and Hodge can all handle the ball well, and all can play the two guard.

‘Cisco Garcia should be interesting.  I had the opportunity to watch him a lot over the past two years.  He is certainly talented.  He handles the ball extremely well and passes even better, and his best attribute is his defense.  However, Garcia would fade from games at times.  I never really figured him out.  I always thought he could do more.  He certainly has Tayshaun Prince abilities, and that ain’t too shabby.

Luther Head is going to become a point-per-minute player.  He would benefit better if he were going to Sacramento to fill the Bobby Jackson role, but he will still score quite a bit of points because he can knock down shots when he gets good looks.  And with T-mac, you better not miss too many times, because you will only get so many looks per game.

Seattle has a lot of things to do.  They need to figure out what they are going to do with Nate McMillan, Reggie Evans, Jerome James, Ray Allen, and Antonio Daniels.  I think Daniels is gone, and hopefully to Cleveland.  Jerome James may cost too much.

This just in, Johan Petro has some hair thingy going on.  He has like a baby rat-tail.  I think that would be enough to force me out, if I were Ray Allen.

Well, I called the Felton pick.  But now I have no idea what is going to happen, so I am going to take a minute and hate on Roy Williams.

He just had two players go in the first five picks.  He won the title with one of his own players.  Marvin Williams.  None of the other players were his.  Matt Doherty would have won the title as well.  Roy needed to walk into a team with five potential first-rounders.  He couldn’t win it with three when he was coaching Kansas.  (Gooden, Hinrich, and Collison).  Needless to say, I’m not impressed by his ‘coaching’ ability.

Another sidebar:  How H-O-T was Deron Williams’ girlfriend/wife?  I love this game.

You wanted a post, well you got one.

This just in… my job sucks.  I’ve been working so much that I have not had the opportunity to update the blog.

I’ve got some responses to the hate mail my older brother has been sending me.  Yes, I know that the Spurs won it all.  I knew it was going to happen eight months ago.  Do I really need to post it and flaunt it.  I don’t think so.  Anyway, let’s get to the draft:

We have to put up with Stu Scott, Steven A. Smith, Jay Bilas, and Dick Vitale.  That is terrible.  Where is Charles Barkley?  Bilas and Vitale don’t have a clue about the NBA game.  Smith and Scott just don’t even have a clue.  I would mute this, but my hotel room television has the words scrolling across the screen.  No, I haven’t figured out how to stop it, but I am excited to see “Booyah!” come across the screen.

The Bucks select…Bogut.  Well, he’s got, um, he’s tall, which is nice.  The Bucks were just compared to the Clippers when they selected Olowakandi.  The Bogut era officially just ended.

The Hawks select… Marvin Williams.  They now have more small forwards on their roster than the Knicks have power forwards.  Sometimes a lot of depth is a bad thing, especially when you have no point guard, center, power forward, or shooting guard.

The Jazz traded for the number 3 pick and selected Deron Williams.  If I had time yesterday, I would have posted that exact event, because it was obvious, and Williams is the best point in the draft.

Chris Paul is T.J. Ford without as much speed.  He’s going to get beat up, and he can’t shoot that well.

I’m already sick of Stu Scott.

Prediction: Charlotte will select Raymond Felton.  I will be back in a minute.

I’ve been working incredibly hard this summer for a big law firm here in the ‘Ville, so I’ve had very little time to add posts.  Of course, after I did my best impersonation of a columnist and declared the Spurs the champs after two games, I thought it best to shut my mouth.  I did what I hate about the media.  I immediately declared them the champs without thinking.

Well, now after the awesome finish to game 5, the Spurs sit on the threshold of another championship.  I will be sitting there sporting the white shooting shirt I’ve worn for every playoff game this season, except for game 1 of the Denver series.  (I went with black to start the playoffs, and quickly changed my tune.)  I won’t call it a championship yet, but I will be eagerly waiting the final few minutes of this one for another fantastic finish.  Hopefully, I will get to have a column tomorrow afternoon.

“The NBA Finals where Manu’s legend is born.”

For those of you who were unwilling to listen ALL year long, and for those of you who were too lazy to hop on the bandwagon when there were still good seats available: I TOLD YOU SO.

Come on people.  Is there any doubt that this San Antonio team is one of the greatest in NBA history?  They can do it all.  They were tougher than Denver.  They were better shooters than Seattle.  They were faster on the break than Phoenix.  And now they are better defenders than Detroit.  What can’t they do?  Someone please tell me.  I’m waiting, and I’ll still be waiting after the Spurs take the title.

Let’s discuss that special word that is over-used and seldom understood.  It starts with D and ends with ynasty.  The Spurs are on the verge of having 3 titles in seven years, and look poised to have several runs at titles over the next 3-5 years.  Manu, Parker, Bowen, Duncan, Barry, Rasho (just because he needs some love at this point), Nazr, Udrih, and soon to join the team Luis Scola will all be under contract for several seasons.  Plus, everybody knows that R.C. Buford is chomping at the bit to make his offers to Devin Brown (who belongs in San Antonio for his entire career) and Robert Horry.  Signing those two will return the entire Spurs roster, sans Massenburg and Big Dog.  That is not too bad.  Add to the fact that the next Bruce Bowen is sitting behind the bench for every game, and we are talking about a daunting sight for the rest of the League.  I’m referring to Romain Sato, if you must ask.  That folks is how a Dynasty is built.
