An apology
Wow! Where the heck have I been. I checked it out, and have not had a post since November 15. I missed the fracas in New York, the brilliance of Avery Johnson to say screw it with Johnson and the bootleg Van Horn and go with what worked last season, the A.I. deal, the OK State-Texas shootout, the Kevin Durant-Greg Oden as #1 arguments, the awesomeness that are the Suns, my annual all-star team selections and my first trimester awards. Oh my goodness.
This is not only an apology to my loyal 18 readers and true NBA fans, but this is also an apology to myself. Let me explain; I have never been so detached from an NBA season in my life, at least not in the last 20 years. Of course, saying that makes me vomit in my mouth because I feel old. There are some valid reasons for my disappearance. Let’s take a moment and do an evaluation of the complex situation that is the life and times of your loyal hoops-blogger:
1. I’m broke. Seriously, that is a very important factor in my lack of NBA stuff. For the first time in three years, I do not have the NBA League Pass. I simply could not afford it. With my mortgage, car insurance, multiple student loan payments on three years of out of state tuition, credit card debt from having never really worked during school, food money for me and my ‘roommate’, etc. etc., I am not really left with a lot of spending money. Is there a point to this statement? I’m not sure, but it really didn’t make me feel any better to divulge all of this. My point though, if you are going to continue to go to school for a vast number of years, either become a medical doctor or win the lottery. Anything less than that just doesn’t seem worth it right now.
2. I live in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. I don’t know if you know this, but it’s a pretty small community. Seriously, I can’t even buy a six pack of my favorite ‘beverages’ in the grocery store. My firm has five attorneys, and we’re the second largest firm in the city. Needless to say, the newspaper ain’t jumping with NBA news.
3. My workload has increased exponentially in the last two months to the point that I have little time to step away and check out the news.
4. I’ve been out of town every weekend since Thanksgiving. It sure feels that way, at least. That was usually my time to take a few hours and scour the internet (which spews only truthful material at all times) to catch up on my League.
5. I recently got engaged. I’m sorry hoops-gals, the terrible rumors are true. There is now one less, handsome, smart, devoted NBA fan on the market. Anyway, I’m stuck on most nights listening to things that need to be planned and what I’m supposed to like or not like for the wedding. It’s been something of an ordeal, because there is no way in Hades that we are getting married in E-town. The event of the year is going down in San Antonio, Texas, and we’ve got to plan the mess (by we, I obviously mean she) long distance.
Phew. There you go. Five solid reasons why I have been incognito thus far. Not to worry though. The ‘roommate’ is going to San Antonio to plan this weekend, and I’ve got the house all to myself for the Senior Bowl and whatever NBA games I can find on the tele (especially since NBA LeaguePass just came out with their half-season package at a seriously reduced rate). There will be some posts forthcoming. Oh yes, Rosey is back, and I’ve got a lot of ground to cover to make up for the last two months. Stay loyal; the posts are a-coming.
